Depression
Eating patterns rich in unprocessed fruit, vegetables, wholegrain breads and cereals, plant based proteins and oils are important in the prevention and management of mood disorders. The SMILES trial found a nutrient dense diet reduced depressive symptoms after just 3 months while a diet rich in processed food (animal fats, sugar and salt) increased depressive symptoms.
