Healthy Living

Preventing modern diseases

Many modern lifestyle diseases such diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, anxiety and depression, dementia and cancer can be prevented through lifelong healthy eating (not specific foods or nutrients). Less processed nutrient dense eating patterns are key to health.

Life stage nutrition

However your specific diet needs vary depending on your age and life stage. If you are planning a pregnancy (before and during pregnancy) this is a good time for you and your partner to assess your diet and lifestyle to support good outcomes for your fertility, pregnancy and baby’s health (in early life and later in adulthood). Your needs for iron, calcium, folate and iodine are all increased in pregnancy.

Alternately, seniors may find smaller appetites, less interest and difficulties in preparing food, making is hard to achieve higher nutrient needs such as as protein, calcium and Vitamin D important for health.
